Course Description

• This is a required course that is normally taken during the junior. Students who come to Stuyvesant with advanced standing in Social Studies may take this course as sophomores. The fall covers Pre-Revolutionary America, the American Revolution, Federalist Period, Early Republic, Jacksonian Era, Sectional Divisions, the U.S. Civil War, and Reconstruction. The spring covers the conquest of the frontier and the industrialization of America in the second half of the nineteenth century, the progressive era at the turn of the twentieth century, World War I, the "Roaring 20's," the Depression 30's, World War II, "The Cold War," and the many changes in American life since the Second World War.
