Course Description

  • The Middle Ages is a semester long course examining the millennium between the Classical period and the modern era. It is a fascinating topic. Violent, inspired, alien and yet part of our heritage in the West.New York offers a unique opportunity to dive deeply into this subject matter. Field study at the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine on Amsterdam & 112th; as well as the Cloisters, will be an important component of the course. Political, cultural, and economic history will be emphasized. To a certain degree this course will serve as a “prequel”, if you will, to the AP European History course which starts with Petrarch atop Mount Ventoux. This course will finish with Richard III struck down in the mud at Bosworth Field.
