Course Description
- This course will survey topics such as zones of life, geological mapping, ocean chemistry and ocean-atmosphere interaction. Students will establish and maintain an oyster site adjacent to the school in the harbor, work on a bird sanctuary, study with a marine biologist and a college oceanographer. Students will establish two natural habitats for marine spawning and maintain a crustacean and gastropod intertidal area in the Hudson River. Students are graded on their oral and written reports from their readings in periodicals or current research in oceanography. Exams include problem solving, using facts and skills from previous lessons. Participation and involvement in classroom discussions are required. Open to juniors and seniors only.
